Apple just announced Apple Digital Campus Curriculum
- work with high school and college faculty to create a learning environment
that mirrors the curricula being taught
- authentic environment
- avoid teachers trying to write all their custom content
First course: web communication and design
- replacement for webpage course
- project based environment
- classroom becomes a web design agency like you would have in the business
world
- they adapt a nonprofit organization in the community
- build a website that meets the needs of that organization, 'turn over the
keys' at the end of the term
As they master dreamweaver, fireworks, etc they can sit for exams and get 'certified'
WOW is professional certification organization that gives tests, certifies professionals
- students can get apprentice webmaster certification
- students can exit school year with certification
Second course is video journalism
- examined traditional journalism courses
- a lot of schools still focused a lot on print media
- partnered with CNN Student Bureau (education arm of CNN) and Moviola (created
curriculum content using FinalCut Pro)
- every faculty member teaching this course can submit student generated stories
and get professional feedback, CNN will even look at airing some of these reports
on CNN!
- students exit the course learning about video journalism and building a portfolio
of products created in real world context
Students can get certified in FinalCutPro also
