Juvenile Corrections:
During my MSW education, I found my niche in the field of juvenile corrections. From that point through my doctoral education, I worked with state and private agencies, as well as juvenile courts, to provide treatment for adjudicated youth and their families. Some of these activities included:
- Individual and family counseling of male adoelscents with sexual aggression, including relapse prevention, changing thought patterns, empathy building, appropriate sexual behavior, communication skills, social skills, and sex education.
- Community collaboration including facilitating communication between agencies and monitoring of youth.
- Coordination and advocacy for services for adjudicated youth with community and residential resources.

Developmental Disabilities:
From 1993 to 1995, I worked for the Lubbock State School in Lubbock Texas as a Social Worker III and later as a Community Placement Specialist. My job activities included:
- Supervision of five staff members at a rural group home for developmentally disabled adults.
- Social work, case management, and counseling services with developmentally disabled adults living in rural communities.
- Alternate care placement location and coordination for developmentally disabled individuals living in institutional settings.
- Education and counseling with families and residents regarding alternate care.
- Interdisciplinary and interagency staff meetings chair on residents.
- Participation in formulation of policies and procedures.
Domestic Violence & Rape Crisis:
I was a Volunteer Coordinator and Childrne's Advocate with the Williamson county Crisis Center in Round Rock, Texas during 1991-1992. This position included:
- Coordination and training of 50 active volunteers.
- Scheduling 24-hour coverage of hotline for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Crisis and ongoing counseling with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Play thearpy support group with child victims of domestic violence.
Public Housing:
Right after completion of my BSW, I worked as a VISTA Volunteer in Austin, Texas. VISTA is the domestic branch of the Peace Corps. With VISTA, I was placed with the Austin Housing Authority, where I helped to develop and run a resident initiatives program. Activities included:
- Development and implentation of after-school program with youths, including tutoring, recreational activities, educational presentations and field trips.
- Coordination of educational presentations by resources in commmunity for adult residents.
- Development of home care training for adult residents of public housing developments.
