Abbreviated Lesson Plan for Social Studies Activity
Name: Kylee Kerby
Title: Texas Symbols Bingo
Targeted Grade Level: 4th
Objectives: This activity was designed to test students’ knowledge on the official symbols that represent Texas. The objectives of this game would be for students to correctly match symbols while following the rules of the traditional game of Bingo.

Procedure: This activity could either be used for frontloading or to test students’ knowledge on the symbols of Texas. First, everyone gets a bingo card and a set of “chips.” The teacher uses his/her guide of the different combinations and calls out one. For example, “X – Texas flower.” The students find X on the top of their bingo card and see if they have “Texas flower” under it. If they do, they must find the chip with the name of the Texas flower and place it in its designated square. When someone gets a “bingo,” they must announce their symbols and what they are. They must be correct to win.
Closure: If using this activity for frontloading, I would give the students a list of all Texas symbols and what they are, after playing the game. Or, at least go over it orally. If I was using this activity to test students’ knowledge after a lesson on Texas symbols, I would quickly review all symbols orally, paying special attention to those that were incorrect most often.
