Song to be taught: “Deep in the Heart of Texas”

Musical Objective: The children should be able to sing the song in rhythm and add in the 4 beats with wooden sticks after each main line after practicing a few times.
Materials: You will need the lyrics to the song and wooden sticks.
Procedures:
1. Teacher says the words to the song while the students read along.
2. Students sing along (without the sticks) to the song on CD.
3. When the students are comfortable moving on, the teacher will explain that after each main verse, they will need to beat 4 times with the sticks. For example, “The stars at night – are big and bright (xxxx), Deep in the heart of Texas.”
4. Students sing along with CD again while beating with the sticks.
