AKS Minutes - October 5, 2004

Members in Attendance: Carl Holtman Bo and Jo Long Gary and Debbie Floyd Location: 3201 Century Drive Meeting Agenda: Recruiting New Members Officers AKCA Membership Details Membership Dues Fundraising Ideas View Koi Video Website Preview Set next club meeting date, time and location. Old Business: We reviewed and discussed the materials Carl and Gary had printed from the Associated Koi Clubs of America (AKCA) website on starting a new koi club. AKCA recommends the following organizational structure actions: Adopt and approve Articles of Association Adopt and approve Bylaws Obtain Non-Profit Organizational Status (not mandatory—but recommended) Pay the annual AKCA membership dues of $100.00, which includes liability insurance. NOTE-The AKCA business year runs from July 1st to June 30th. Additional information for each of the items listed above will be collected to be discussed at the next meeting. New Business: We developed a list of people in and around Amarillo that might be interested in becoming club members. Some of the current club members said they would follow-up and make contact with these individuals to let them know about our club. Gary said he would make an announcement about our new club at the next OWG Pond Club meeting and extend an invitation to anyone interested in joining. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that we should NOT elect officers until we have more members. Membership dues were discussed. A motion to set the dues at $24.00 per calendar year (Jan-Dec) was made by Bo Long, seconded by Gary Floyd, and motion carried. Some suggestions for club fundraisers were discussed. Ideas included: selling raffle tickets for fish donated by Gary & Carl at the OWG Pond Club meeting and/or sponsor a raffle and sell tickets to the public for merchandise (ex. shotgun, etc.). Club Activity: We watched the 1st of a 3 part series of videotapes on Koi in Japan, titled “Spring in Japan”. It was very informative and we would like to thank Carl for sharing. We will watch the 2nd tape at the next meeting. We previewed and discussed the AKS website. Our goal is to have the site up and running before the next meeting, at which time we can discuss ideas for improvement.
