AKS Minutes - August 5, 2007

Members in Attendance: Gary & Debbie Floyd Carl Holtman Bo & Jo Long Leslie Shufeldt Connie Chapman Location: 6508 Garwood Meeting was called to order at 2:10 pm OLD BUSINESS: Minutes of the July 3, 2007 meeting were distributed, discussed and approved. Motion by Carl, second by Debbie, motion carried. Gary reported that he and Debbie had attended the TAPS Convention in San Antonio on July 27th and 28th. They said several of the speakers were very good and provided helpful information. Some examples of the seminars include: filtration, koi quality & history, water lillys (extra-large Amazon), and the “Man” pond. Next year the TAPS convention will be in Houston. Gary was elected TAPS President and Carl will be the OWG representative. Gary reported that they had approximately 200 people tour their pond this year for the OWG Pond Tour. TREASURER’S REPORT Carl distributed copies of the Treasurer’s report. Our current balance is $7,453.42, less the check issued to BCS in the amount of $4,145.53, leaving a net balance of $3,307.89. NEW BUSINESS Carl presented Gary the AKS Koi Person of the Year Award for 2007. Bo asked the membership to consider giving a “Friendship Award” at the Rocky Mountain Koi Club Show in Denver. This award is given to the owner of a fish selected by our club members attending the show. Presenting this award serves three purposes: 1) Promotes club participation in area koi shows 2) helps to develop skills in recognizing quality koi and 3) lets other clubs know “we are here”. After a brief discussion, a motion to purchase and present a plaque was made by Bo and seconded by Connie, motion carried. Connie volunteered to be in charge of getting our award. Jo asked the membership to consider applying for a SW Airline Cargo shipping account. The application fee is $50.00. It would allow us to ship fish at a substantial discount over other express carriers (ie. Fed Ex & UPS). Motion to apply for cargo shipping account made by Jo, seconded by Debbie, motion carried. At this point, Carl issued a check payable to SW Airline Cargo. The Treasurer’s report was amended to reflect this check, leaving a new account balance of $3,257.89. CALL TO FLOOR: None NEXT MEETING: Gary & Debbie’s house on Sunday, September 9th @ 6:30 pm. We are planning a BBQ cookout. Gary will send an email to OWG members inviting them to attend.
