We are Interested in the dynamics of chemical process. You can see below a proton colliding with a Methane molecule at a collision energy of 30 eV. The incoming proton replaces one of the Methane's Hydrogen. The relative distance and the Mulliken charges of the Carbon atom and the interchanging Hydrogen atoms can be seen on the right in the figure.
