Apply On-line: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/music/SOM/underGradApplicationProcedure.asp
Note: You must apply to Texas Tech University AND the School of
Music. Try to do this in the Fall before the
Spring Auditions.
2. Choose your audition date.
Audition Dates for
Fall 2008
Saturday,
February 23
Saturday, March 1
Auditions are required for Music Majors
only. You may indicate your preferred date on the on-line
application.
3. Choose what you would like to play for your
audition.
The Woodwind Area requires that you
play two
contrasting selections to show technical ability and musical
expression. It is preferable to
select two Class 1 solos (or one solo with contrasting sections), or
any solo piece from the standard repertoire.
Etudes are acceptable as
well, but will not have the same impact as solo repertoire.
All-region etudes do not really give an accurate impression of your
abilities, but can be used as a last resort.
You will be asked to play all of your major scales,
and play a brief sight reading excerpt.
4. Acceptance letters will be sent out
immediately after the last
audition date. Scholarship
notifications will be sent out in late March or
early April.
Other suggestions:
- Contact me by email or phone if you are
interested in our program. I very much enjoy contact with
students before they audition.
- If Texas Tech is one of your top choices,
try to come to one of our audition days. It makes a better
impression. Tapes are rarely considered for
scholarships.
- Fill out the Financial Aid Form (FASFA) as
soon after the
new year as possible.
- Your SAT or ACT scores can yield very large
academic
scholarships. Take them multiple times if necessary. The
school takes your highest score from each section from all of your
attempts, so you have nothing to lose.
- Monitor the various deadlines and allow time
for materials to be received by the University.
- Be very prepared for
your audition for every
school you are considering. Do not come in and play a work that
is almost ready for Solo and Ensemble contest. This audition is
more important than an All-State audition or Solo and Ensemble
contest,
so prepare accordingly.
