S. MAAS CONSULTING

Since most of my previous career was spent as an employee of the Federal Government, I didn't have an opportunity to undertake private consulting activities. As a faculty member at Texas Tech, I now have the opportunity to offer my services (with some restrictions) on a consulting basis. As outlined in the specialization section of this webpage, I have considerable expertise in a wide variety of agricultural matters, and have been a leader in developing many significant advancements in agricultural research. Some areas that my capabilities might be of use to interested parties are as follows.

Micrometeorology.   Estimation of field or regional evapotranspiration, crop stress, or crop water use, and the development of systems to measure these and other microenvironmental quantities.

Yield Estimation and Prediction.   Use of crop models and/or remote sensing to estimate or predict field or regional yields (domestic or foreign) for all the major agricultural crops (grains, fiber crops, oil crops) and specialized crops (sugar, cocoa, forages), and the development of objective systems for making crop yield estimations and predictions.

Remote Sensing.   Development of affordable ground-based or airborne systems for acquiring high-quality multispectral (visible, near-infrared, thermal) or hyperspectral remote sensing measurements and imagery. Use of ground-based, aircraft, or satellite remote sensing data for quantifying soil and vegetation characteristics. Analysis and/or correction (atmospheric, bi-directional effects) of remote sensing imagery.

I am currently available to undertake selected private consulting projects. Consulting projects may be contracted on a number of fiscal methods, including Fixed-Price (FP), Time and Materials (T&M), and Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee (CPFF). I may be contacted by interested parties most conveniently by phone or email.
